Anniversary of Menachem Ussishkin’s death

Avraham Menachem Mendel Ussishkin (14 August 1863 - 2 October 1941) was a Zionist leader, a member of "Hovevei Zion" and head of a group called "Zionists of Zion". Ussishkin was very active at the Zionist Congresses, established various institutions of the Zionist Movement, and headed the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael. He was buried, at his request, on Mount Scopus in the Cave of Nicanor which he hoped to make into a national pantheon of the great leaders of the nation.

Navigator Ron Arad is taken captive

On October 16, 1986, while attacking terrorist targets south of Sidon in Lebanon, the Phantom jet of Captain Ron Arad developed a technical fault. Ron and the pilot bailed out of the plane in Lebanese territory. A helicopter sent to the area rescued the Phantom pilot with great difficulty but Ron was taken captive by the Shiite Amal organization. Until May 1988 there were indications of his condition and the place of his captivity, but since then all trace of him has completely vanished.
