A Shabbat of Unity

Nov 29th 2023 - December 5th 2023

Shabbat of Unity

The Kabbalat Shabbat ceremonies for evacuees continues. A reception was held at the Kfar Maccabiah hotel, for evacuees from Moshav Yachini and Sderot who have been staying at the hotel already for several weeks. The Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony was hosted by Gusti Yehoshua-Breverman with musical accompaniment by Amir Schreiber.

Shabbat of Unity

Due to the challenging events in our lives, the Department for Irgoon and Connection with Israelis Abroad decided to embark on a project that would benefit us all. Together with the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and the Jewish Agency, we are inviting you to take part in the "Shabbat of Global Unity" initiative, in which we dedicated Shabbat to unity and solidarity.
We have created a Kabbalat Shabbat booklet (in Hebrew, English, and Spanish) that combines poetry and readings from the Jewish and Israeli traditions. No matter where we live in the world, we can all receive Shabbat together. Jews are more united than ever, because unity is our strength.

This is the third Shabbat that many places worldwide are observing ‘Shabbat of Unity.’ In Toronto, an Israeli Shabbat service was held for the first time at the "Holy Blossom" Reform Synagogue. Close to a hundred Israelis from all over the city and all ages gathered together to mark thirty days since the Black Shabbat with singing, prayers and a joint Friday dinner. Roman Lisovoi, whose parents were murdered on October 7th when they went fishing at Zikim Beach, joined the Shabbat celebration and shared the story of his late parents and recited Kaddish with the crowd. It was an incredibly significant and communal event. In Budapest, there were two Shabbat events in the Jewish communities that hosted Israelis for a Shabbat gathering. One event was with the Reform community of Budapest and one with the Neological Jewish community.
