Masorti Olami brought together leaders from all over the world to Kibbutz Tzuba for an intense Leadership Shabbaton program on February 20-22. Participants came from Israel, North America, Latin America and Europe and included top level leaders from the Conservative/ Masorti movement.
The program began on Thursday evening with a tour of the Tzuba winery and a program entitled “Israel’s other start-up: boutique wineries and buy-cott activism”. Friday, we held a “brainstorm” session and spoke about our personal stories and connections to Israel. We continued with a panel discussion which included discussions on relations between Jews in Israel and in other countries.
Shabbat was brought in together with Rabbi Reuven Stamov from Kiev delivering a Dvar Torah in Hebrew and the importance of being united and making Aliyah. Shabbat morning services were held on the porch of the main building overlooking the hills of Jerusalem. On Shabbat afternoon, Dr. David Breakstone led a session about “Zionism 2014: Challenges, Opportunities and the Masorti Response”. Overall, the weekend provided an excellent outlet for discussions not only about Masorti Olami but our connection to Israel and Zionism.
A group of 12 NOAM Argentina madrichim visited Israel for 2 weeks from February 24 – March 10 for an intensive training and study program, the Israel Leadership Seminar. The goal of the seminar was to develop leadership skills through touring Israel, studying with Masorti movement scholars and to strengthen the Zionist commitment of the madrichim who will in turn bring that passion back to their NOAM youth chapters.
The seminar included visits to Holon, Kibbutz Hanaton, Tsfat, Robinson’s Arch, Yad Vashem, Mt. Herzl and the Herzl Museum and Tel Aviv.
Educational seminars included discussions on modern Jewish law, Zionism in the 21st century with Dr. David Breakstone, Rabbi Tzvi Graetz, madrichim and peula training at the Machon LeMadrichim at the Jewish Agency and an overview of Israeli society.
The participants went home energized about teaching Zionism and full of ideas about the interesting ways to bring the history of Israel alive.
