Encouraging Aliyah in London

Date:04/28/2014

The new “Habayta” representative in England quickly got to work starting off by coordinating a lecture tour of the Jewish communities in England, which were conducted by a young new immigrant, who told the story of his Aliyah and integration into the Israeli media industry.

The lecturer – Ari Soffer, Managing Editor of “Arutz Sheva” News – met in late February with groups in the "Ner Yisrael" community in London, with students at the University of Birmingham which currently has one of the largest concentrations of Jewish students, with members of the local World Zionist Organization and with members of the Jewish community in Manchester.

Ari Soffer met with a wide range of members of the Jewish communities – of all age groups. He told his personal Aliyah story with an emphasis on making Aliyah out of a sense of commitment, wanting to make a change, choosing to settle in an area with Zionist significance. He also spoke of the need to assimilate into Israeli society, as part of the Zionist endeavor, and he stressed to the students that it did not matter which profession they were studying, you can succeed in anything; even if the profession does not seem practical, they will still be able to contribute to the State of Israel.  The meetings were held in cooperation with the British Zionist Federation.
