Event in honor of Ms. Margalit Zinati

The Department organized a special event for Ms. Margalit Zinati, in honor of her being chosen to light a torch in the main ceremony on Mount Herzl during Israel’s 70th anniversary celebrations.


Margalit Zinati, the last Jewish woman in Peki’in, has devoted her life to looking a fter the Peki’in synagogue and passing on her heritage to future generations. She is the symbol of the intergeneration al connection, of genuine old and new Zionism, and of the need to continue to teach the younger generation and guide the mon their path in Israel.


The Department for Israel by means of the Zionist Council in Israel runs Beit Zinatiin Peki’in, one of the most important her itagesites in Jewish history. Beit Zinati tells the story of a community of Jews who did not going to exile and the story of the Zinati family, who lived with in a multicultural fabric that still existsin this ancient village until today.
