The anniversary of the death of Rabbi Uri Zohar
Rabbi Uri Zohar Halevi (November 4, 1935 – June 2, 2022), until becoming religious at the end of the 1970s, was an actor, comedian, stand-up performer, screenwriter and prominent Israeli film director. After turning to religion, he dedicated his life to studying Torah and giving Torah lessons and lectures.
Zohar began the process of becoming religious following a meeting with Rabbi Yitzhak Shlomo Zilberman. His path resonated with the public in Israel, due to his extensive fame.
Rabbi Zohar, who was fiercely critical of secular culture in his sermons, guided others returning to religion and even founded the "Maaneh" organization for this purpose. He lectured and recorded broadcasts on the topic of becoming religious that were played over the phone, hosted a weekly radio show on Radio Jerusalem and Radio Darom, and presented TV shows on the "Hidabrut" channel. He described the process of his turning to religion in the book "And You Chose Life."
Rabbi Uri Zohar died on the 3rd of Sivan 5782, at the age of 86, and was buried in Har HaMenuchot in Givat Shaul in Jerusalem.
