The fall of the Lamed Hei
On 5 Shvat, 5708, 35 combatants fell in a courageous stand of a few against many (the Lamed Hei platoon, the Mountain Platoon or the Lamed Hei convoy) on their way to reinforce the blockaded Gush Etzion. The platoon consisted of 20 Palmach fighters from the Harel brigade, 15 members of the infantry corps and Etzioni brigade members including a number of scouts. The platoon was commanded by Danny Mass who was previously the commander of Gush Etzion.
