Jerusalem | Yom Ha'atzmaut 2026
For the sixth consecutive year, the Reading of Israel's Declaration of Independence at the Egalitarian Kotel (Kotel HaMishpachot) took place this past Sunday — a festive and moving gathering that has become a meaningful tradition within Israel's Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations.
The event was initiated by Dr. Yizhar Hess, Vice Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, and held in partnership with dozens of organizations representing the full breadth of Jewish society. Together, they brought rabbis, public figures, and leading voices to the Kotel for a unifying moment of shared identity and celebration.
The reading at the Egalitarian Kotel embodies the spirit of pluralism and unity that the Declaration itself envisions — a place where every voice within the Jewish people is welcomed at the heart of Jerusalem.
