From London 1900 to Jerusalem 2025: A Zionist Journey

David Matlow Shares Herzl Collection Materials from the 1900 London Congress

David Matlow, the owner of the world’s largest private collection of Theodor Herzl memorabilia, presents a new photo gallery of items from the Fourth Zionist Congress, which took place in London in August 1900, 125 years ago.

This Congress was unique, as it was the only one held outside continental Europe prior to the establishment of the State of Israel.

The upcoming 39th Zionist Congress, to be held in Jerusalem this October, stands as the proud successor to the early Congresses convened and organized by Herzl.

This gallery is the fourth installment in Matlow’s ongoing project to share original materials from each Congress on its 125th anniversary, highlighting the tremendous efforts of the Zionist movement that ultimately led to the proclamation of the State of Israel in 1948.

Sharing these materials also serves as a reminder of the true purpose of the Zionist movement, at a time when Israel’s detractors frequently distort the meaning of the words Zionist and Zionism.

In addition, a large exhibit of Matlow’s Herzl collection, alongside items from the Central Zionist Archives in Jerusalem and YIVO in New York, was displayed at the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Cultural Center in New York from September 2024 to January 2025. A virtual interactive 3D tour of the exhibit is available online.
