Sally Bein in DC

The Children of Sally Bein

A special event was held at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C., featuring a screening of the film "The Children of Sally Bein", produced by the Department for Israel and Holocaust Commemoration at the World Zionist Organization. The film tells the story of Sally Bein, a pioneering educator whose progressive approach to integrating people with disabilities was ahead of its time.

Alongside this inspiring and courageous narrative, the film also portrays the tragic fate of Sally Bein and the children, who were deported to the Sobibor extermination camp, where they perished.

The event was held in collaboration with the North American Representation of the World Zionist Organization, as well as the organizations Makom and ASHAR. Following the screening, a panel discussion took place featuring distinguished guests, including Dr. Michael Berenbaum, a world-renowned Holocaust scholar and one of the key figures in the establishment of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and David Erwin, CEO of Makom. This organization empowers people with special needs to live full lives.

The event took on a deeply personal and emotional tone when Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, shared his own story and personal connection to the film’s themes.

The evening highlighted a powerful message of inclusion, personal resilience, and the fight against hatred, a message that continues to resonate in Jewish communities in Israel and around the world.
