In November 2023, the “Leading Women in Israeli Society – Building a Model Society” delegation traveled to New York for a week of dialogue, connection, and solidarity.
The delegation included 14 inspiring activists and leaders from across Israeli society who met with prominent women shaping Jewish communal life in the U.S. and championing gender equality and Zionist values.
The program was initiated by the Department for Social Engagement at the World Zionist Organization in partnership with the Shazur organization. It was founded with the belief that connecting visionary women who are leading the struggle for equality in both Israel and the U.S. can create meaningful partnerships rooted in shared challenges and mutual purpose. These relationships provide a practical expression of Jewish peoplehood and help promote the advancement of women on both sides of the ocean.
In the aftermath of the October 7th atrocities, the need to amplify the Israeli and Zionist narrative has grown stronger, especially when told through the voices of women: survivors of terror, heroines of war, and leaders of the civilian volunteer effort on the home front.
Throughout the journey, the delegation engaged with diverse Jewish communities and explored shared concerns facing women in both countries. A central takeaway echoed in every meeting: advancing women’s representation and leadership at decision-making tables is essential to healing and rebuilding both societies.
A special session on sexual violence and the war crimes committed by Hamas on October 7th co-organized by the WZO, Shazur, and the Israeli Mission to the United Nations, delivered a powerful and urgent message: the world must not stay silent in the face of these atrocities, nor in response to the silence of global women’s organizations.
