The Cultural Judaism Movement
Following the recognition by the Zionist National Institutions of Humanistic Cultural Judaism as a distinct stream, the Department for Zionist Enterprises embraces both the responsibility and the mission of serving as a home for the Judaism as Culture movement — a space for liberal Jews who actively live and express their Jewish identity as culture.
In February, we launched this global movement at the “Judaism as Culture: Belonging. Tikkun. Hope.” conference in Israel. The movement serves as a shared tent - a space of belonging, renewal, and hope for us and for future generations of Jews around the world. It reflects a Judaism rooted in Jewish, democratic, and liberal values.
The establishment of the movement is the result of years of sustained work in this field, alongside in-depth processes of reflection and research carried out with representatives of Jewish communities around the world. It emerges both from a genuine need arising within communities and from a moment of opportunity - shaped by a growing desire among Jews everywhere to engage more deeply with their Jewish identity, to take part in shared spaces, and to cultivate a liberal and democratic Judaism that draws from the richness of Jewish tradition as a source of inspiration for the journey ahead.
