Born in Tel Aviv, Yigal holds a bachelor's degree in Israeli history from Tel Aviv University and a master's and PhD in archeology from Bar Ilan University.
Yigal was involved in education in various frameworks, including the Society for the Protection of Nature and the Uri Maimon Sayarot, where he served as the CEO from 2000-2003. He went on an educational mission on behalf of the World Zionist Organization's Department of Youth and Pioneers to the Yehuda HaTza'ir movement in the USA.
In the years 2006-2012 he served as the director and curator of the Ramla Municipal Museum and since 2013 he has served as the director of the Central Zionist Archive.
Yigal lives in Kochav Yair, is married, and has three children.
