November 29th - 2022

Seventy five years ago, on November 29th, the United Nations voted to establish a Jewish state in the land of Israel.

The vote was broadcasted on the radio, loudspeakers were placed outside the cities, and the members of the Jewish community listened intently to the transmitter.
As soon as the final decision was announced, the crowd burst into applause and a spontaneous celebration began that lasted all night and culminated in our National Institutions building in Jerusalem.

At the legendary Kapolski Cafe on Allenby Street in Tel Aviv, a magnificent tiered cake was presented with a statue of the State Secretary Benjamin Ze'ev Herzl, symbols of the Star of David and the inscription: "If you wish it, it is not a dream."

75 years later, confectioner Or Spitz recreated the cake from the iconic photo and placed it in front of her pastry shop.
