During March, Women’s History Month, every year a wide span of activities are carried out in universities all over North America, dealing with different aspects related to women in Israel. A Department intern at the University of Ottawa in Canada brought it forward and held, together with Carleton University, a FeminIsrael meeting with Amal Elsana Alh'jooj, an internationally renowned women’s rights activist who promotes women’s rights in Israel, especially empowerment of Bedouin women in the Negev. About 30 students participated in the meeting and heard Amal’s fascinating personal story and learned about the challenges faced by women in various communities in Israel. Amal presented her activities within the framework of empowering women from minority groups, the struggle for their rights and paving the way to providing them with education and independence.
