March 9th, 2014 - This past Sunday, the South African Zionist Federation together with South African Friends of Israel held their 3rd annual Israel Advocacy Conference in Johannesburg. The event was particularly successful and exceeded all expectations. There were over 300 participants in attendance at the conference, representing a wide spectrum of South Africa’s parliament and political parties, including the ACDP, DA, ANC, Inkatha and Freedom Front parties, as well as more than 150 Christian, political and Jewish organizations from around South Africa and African countries (Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Nigeria, Congo, Ghana and Cameroon).
Highlights of the conference were the panels, lectures and workshops with speakers from the SA Christian community, together with special guests from Israel, such as Gusti Yehoshua Braverman, Head of the Department for Diaspora Activities of the World Zionist Organization, Professor Yehuda Skornik, Past President of Magen David Adom and Mr. Jonathan Davis, Vice President for External Relations and Head of the Raphael Recanati International School at the Inter-Disciplinary Center in Herziliya.
The most important message of the event was that Jewry and Israel are not alone in our love and defense of the State of Israel – IN FACT – we have many, many millions of friends in South Africa and Africa that support, love and stand for Israel and what Israel is all about. On behalf of the World Zionist Organization, would like to especially thank Ben Swartz, Vice Chairman of the South African Zionist Federation, the South African Zionist Federation and the SA Friends of Israel for inviting us to participate in this historic and important event and bringing meaningful dialogue and discussion about Israel to the forefront.
