Our Programs

USD/Hagshama gives college activists the opportunity to participate in tailor-made programs that run throughout the year on a regional and national basis. Below is a list of the major programs we provide.

USD at a glance

Israel/Zionist Campus Activism Annual programs

Do The Write Thing

This is a three-day seminar organized by USD/Hagshama, designed for young Jewish journalists and media students. DTWT takes place during the General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities (usually in mid November). The participants get a chance to interact with highly influential Jewish figures, and engage in a variety of meetings as well as attend journalism skills workshops.

Regional Conferences

Every region puts together at least one regional conference during the year. The regional conference is an opportunity for active students to enhance their leadership abilities and knowledge. They are organized by a Regional Steering Committee consisting of student leaders from the region. Each conference has a major theme - for example, Israel Advocacy; Israel and Democracy. It includes both professional speakers and interactive workshops.

YZL (Young Zionist Leaders)

This intensive 3-day conference provides a forum for the Israel activists and young leaders, and includes workshops on leadership, discussions and planning of campus activism and informative lectures.

YZL Training Program in Israel

This is a two-week training program especially built for USD and other Hagshama Department activists held in Israel. It includes training in a number of fields (leadership skills, issues relating to Israel, Israel programs, activist skills and Hagshama Department working methods), combined with trips around Israel and other leisure activities. Participants in this program are: USD Regional Directors, USD Representatives and other prominent student activists interviewed by USD/Hagshama.

birthright israel trips

USD/Hagshama are offering you the opportunity to participate in a free birthright israel ten-day trip to Israel this year, either during summer vacation or during winter break. These trips are a gift from birthright Israel - a unique partnership between the people of Israel through their government, local Jewish Communities and prominent Jewish philanthropists. The USD/Hagshama trip options are: Beyond the Headlines- A free ten-day trip to Israel focusing on Communication, Mass Media and Current Events in Israel.

Year-round Israel On the Campus

USD/Hagshama Regional Directors and Representatives regularly provide up-to-date Israel information on campuses, offering information about Israel programming and upcoming USD/Hagshama events.

Israel Fairs

These are large-scale events, designed to promote Israel and Israel programs. They involve a series of campus-based celebrations and educational days about Israel - including Israeli music, food, and speakers as well as representatives from Israeli organizations and programs. Every fair in your region is registered in the Israel Fair Notification System.

Israel Awareness Seminars

These Regional / National seminars are a good way for Israel activists to discuss and teach each other about various aspects of Israel and Zionism. These programs are designed for the reps and can coincide with a Consulate briefing, Embassy visit, or some other special event.

Speaking Tours

USD/Hagshama assists in arranging visits of prominent scholars, Members of Knesset and other well-known figures from different walks of Israeli society. Our campus reps arrange for them to speak on campus and be interviewed for campus newspapers and radio stations in order to educate all students about the different aspects of Israel. We also sponsor local tours with shlichim or other interesting folks in your region. We recommend that you try this - it's a great experience for everyone involved!
