MOFET – The Timna Schwika Social Venture Accelerator

The Mofet Program copies the model from the high-tech business world to the world of social ventures in order to help those with pioneering social ideas to fulfill them, thereby contributing towards advance social justice, equality and fulfillment, which are at the heart of Herzl’s vision. The program is aimed at social entrepreneurs with an idea or an active venture in the following spheres: social welfare, health, education, reducing social disparities, reinforcing the periphery, enhancing the connection between different population groups in Israel, immigrant absorption, equality and democracy, and preventing domestic violence.

Leaders in local government – building an ideal society

The Leaders in Local Government program of the WZO in cooperation with the Kolot Association, invites senior officials from local authorities to deal with the main challenges facing leaders in local government through beit midrash study, which draws inspiration from Zionist and Jewish sources and philosophy. The year of study reaches its highlight with a visit to the USA in order to meet with all streams of North American Jewry.


Academy for Joint Israeli Leadership

An innovative and groundbreaking project: for the first time in Israel, a joint Jewish-Arab academy for building genuine Israeli partnership! As part of the Academy, an equal number of young people, Jews and Arabs, work together after finishing high school for a 6-month program to develop a new civil social discourse, while developing capabilities of responsibility and social leadership, promoting economic mobility and granting equal opportunity to young men and women. The program’s counselors are also an equal number of Jews and Arabs. The Academy was established in partnership with the Association for Joint Israeli Leadership and the Ma’ase Center.

Returning to the Declaration of Independence

The “Returning to the Declaration of Independence” program deals with studying the values and content of Israel’s Declaration of Independence, aiming to reinforce the values of democracy and equality among Israel’s generation of the future. Through this program thousands of pupils each year, from all over the country, are able to learn – perhaps for the first time – the face that equality regardless of religion, race and gender is one of the formative values of Zionism as set forth in the Declaration: The State of Israel “shall be rooted on the foundations of freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by of the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights for all its citizens, regardless of religious, race or gender”. The program is offered to schools all over the country as an activity for pupils or training for teachers. The program was implemented in 41 different localities in Israel, and within this framework activities were extended to around 35,000 pupils and education staff members, in 822 classes.


PROJECT TEN – MITZPE RAMON

Young people from Israel and around the world volunteering to create social change together. This is a joint project between the WZO and JAFI. The center for joint activity is located in Mitzpe Ramon. Volunteers come for a period of 5 months to work with the local population in Mitzpe Ramon and in the Bedouin villages around the city for a variety of activities: teaching English to school children, strengthening local tourism, guidance and support in community centers during the afternoons, and more. During the corona lockdown period the volunteers distributed meals to families who needed assistance.


Scholarships for Druze students

The World Zionist Organization, the Druze Zionist Movement in Israel and the Rina and Dr. Nissim Levy family understand the importance and great significance of advancing Druze students and established a scholarship fund for students studying science, engineering and medicine in Israel’s academic institutions. 2020 was the third year the grants were distributed. Over the course of three years approximately 200 grants were distributed; 60% of the recipients were women.


Department activities during the Corona virus – day camps for children of hospital staff

The Department, through organizations of young people who have graduated from the various youth movements – HaShomer HaTza’ir, Noar Oved VeLomed, camps for olim and cultural movements – operated day camps for children of medical staff that ran for two months, with hundreds of children participating in hospitals throughout the country. Thanks to these day camps the medical staffs were able to concentrate on caring for patients, thereby significantly reducing the burden of these parent.
