Further to the escalation of rockets and mortars being fired into Israel, particularly its southern region within a 40 kilometer radius from the border with Gaza, the Zionist Council organized a "day of respite" for the children of the south and their parents.

Some 1200 individuals participated in an outing to Jerusalem that included a visit to the Biblical Zoo and the WZO's Herzl Center.

The activity was featured on YNET.

Since the beginning of Operation "Pillar of Cloud", the Herzl Center and Museum opened their doors free of charge to residents of the South. Each day there were three groups from the south, as well as families who chose to arrive independently, who participated in the different activities of the Herzl Center and Herzl Museum. Among these groups were children from the various youth movements in the south and the Israeli Medical Association that brought the children of doctors working in the south to partake in interactive and experiential tours of Mt. Herzl.

In addition, employees of the Herzl Center held seminars on Zionism for commanders and officers of the Israel Defense Forces. These sessions served as a source of morale and motivation for strengthening these commanders during this difficult time.

"Israeli Culture", supported by Ministry of Culture and Sports, arranged a group of artists to perform before the children of staff members of Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. The show was held against the backdrop of alarms and missile barrages. The Israeli Culture and Sports Minister, Limor Livnat, who attended the event, expressed her gratitude to "Israeli Culture" and the artists who volunteered to participate in the event.

The WZO and iZionist websites now features a banner supporting Israel's right to defend itself as well as calling upon the public to sign a WZO-sponsored petition to demonstrate solidarity with the Pillar of Defense campaign.  It was signed by some 800 individuals within the first day of being posted.

The websites, as well as our facebook and twitter accounts, also carry continuously updated resources for following events and engaging in advocacy. We also distributed a letter of solidarity prepared by the Vice Chairman of the WZO as well as an article he published in The Times of Israel highlighting the human side of what is going on here.

The WZO is also active through Zionist Federations around the world.

Among the activities that have been organized:

AMLAT

The recent ongoing emergency situation in Israel combined with the need of Jews in the Diaspora to mobilize support for Israel at this time and Israel's right to self defense resonated strongly in Latin America, where the Zionist Federations successfully led a number of support rallies and engaged in advocacy campaigning.
