Hebrew Studies Coordinator

The Hebrew Studies department heads or coordinators are generally veteran teachers who served as subject coordinators in Israel. All of them have prior educational shlichut experience and they are well acquainted with the issues related to teaching abroad. All of them are fluent in preparing educational material and carrying out enrichment seminars for teachers in Jewish schools in the Diaspora. A Hebrew Studies principal/coordinator performs a wide range of tasks in the field of Jewish-Zionist education.

 

Term of the Shlichut


Two years with an option to extend for one additional year.

 

Job Description


  • Responsible for Jewish/Hebrew Studies curriculum in the school.
  • Initiating educational ceremonies, memorial days and celebrations relating to Israel and the Jewish calendar.   
  • Organizing seminars for local teachers in order to enrich their general knowledge and that of their subject matter.  
  • Operating a learning center.
  • Producing educational material tailored to the level of the students in the school in which the shaliach works.  
  • Coordinating educational activities between the Hebrew and General Studies departments in the day schools.
  • Reporting to the administration with respect to educational activities relating to Hebrew and Jewish studies.  


Basic Requirements for the Shlichut


 

  • Continuous presence in Israel during the previous five years
  • Full command of Hebrew and specified fluency in the local language
  • Army/National Service
  • Completion of the selection and training process


Position Requirements


  • Minimum five years teaching experience in the education system
  • Intermediate level knowledge of the local language
  • Teaching certificate
  • Minimum seven years of Israeli citizenship


Preferred Skills


  • Academic credentials
  • Extensive background in Judaism and Zionism
  • Previous shlichut experience
